By Melina Kamaritis, Senior Dual enrollment is one of the greatest programs iPrep has to offer; where as other schools have dual enrollment classes that are focused on core classes, iPrep lets you choose what classes you want to take.
Even if you’re not sure what you will pursue in college, you can still take dual enrollment to start getting credit for your General Education; this will help you complete classes that would take time and money in your first two years, while you could be working on your major or taking classes to decide on a major. A important point: While you should take dual enrollment classes, you should still take AP classes for core subjects because some schools may not accept your dual enrollment credits because some may be used for high school graduation credits. Dual enrollment is also a great way to find new opportunities and get a close to college experience, so you can get a “near” college experience. This makes the transition from high school to college easier. This year I decided to finally take advantage of the dual enrollment program at iPrep and took 5 extra classes at Miami Dade College. The credits I completed allow me to go into Physics 2 with Calculus, a sophomore level class, during my freshman year of college. In addition, I took Chinese language classes both semesters this year, which granted me the opportunity to study in China this summer while completing two college language credits. If you have the ability to take dual enrollment, you should definitely contact Ms. Pedroso to take the PERT exam and see what classes you can take; it’ll help you get ahead in credits, and it can boost your GPA if you take the classes seriously.
