As National Poetry Month is celebrated in our Creative Writing class, students were assigned and encouraged to create a poem in which they described their current life as a metaphor. I was inspired to share my own piece and address where I stand currently as a graduating senior in high school with several changes ahead of me.
"A Breathing Paradox" Eighteen: the precious age where life blooms as a breathing paradox. I am the coexistence between contradicting beings: The sun and moon, My father and mother, My mind and spirit. I’m too young to be making my own decisions but I’m too old to have my decisions made for me. I’m naive yet aware of what lies ahead. Days feel endless, yet fleeting. My life is the lightning and rainbows produced by storms. It is the brightest stars burning on the darkest nights. Dreams unravel to me as realistic memories. Timeless, yet temporary. I am a serendipity in the midst of uncertainty.

Kristie RodriguezSome things that I believe are worth knowing about me are that I love learning about unconventional concepts such as astrology, crystals, tarot cards, and lucid dreaming. I find a reason to expand on my writing every day, and I hope anyone that encounters my words leaves with something to integrate into their life! |
