And in the beginning,
God gave your body a checklist: Keep your heart on beat and your lungs dancing with oxygen, ... Treat your body like a well-rounded planet built for all seasons... "Give Yourself Some Flowers," by Marcus Anaker . |
To honor Poetry Month 2022, I read the poem, “Give Yourself Some Flowers”, by Marcus Amaker, and it inspired me to write about my passion for health and fitness. In his mindful essay, Amaker communicates his care for his body and how he maintains it. Although he uses symbolism instead of factual health information, the ideas that he pushes, like drinking water and deep breathing, are in fact very helpful for maintaining your health.
For those interested in improving their health, losing fat and gaining muscle is always a surefire route to achieve this goal. But you may ask, “Jacob, how do you lose weight while simultaneously gaining muscle?” Well it is entirely possible, and it might be more fun than you think. The process is known as “clean-bulking.”
Eating clean healthy foods high in calories and protein while lifting weights every day can improve your metabolism, aid in muscle growth, and increase your caloric maintenance. Over time these three benefits will improve your quality of life, make fat loss easier, and make you stronger physically and mentally. |
What is clean bulking and how do I do it?
According to Daniel Preiato, a registered dietitian and certified strength and conditioning specialist writes for the website Healthline that explains: “Clean bulking is an eating pattern that provides a controlled calorie surplus to build muscle and strength while preventing excess fat gains. This method is often utilized by athletes who can’t afford to gain too much fat when attempting to grow muscle.” How do you clean bulk? Clean bulking is eating more calories than you burn with healthy whole foods that contribute more to muscle growth than fat gain. Regular bulking focuses solely on weight gain regardless of gains being muscle or fat. |
Clean bulking focuses on gaining muscle with minimal fat gain, and takes longer. How can I implement this strategy? Simply count the calories of whatever clean foods you are eating, and make sure you are getting more than your body needs to maintain weight.
