As I sat down to write this article, it suddenly struck me that the whole of iPrep may read this article when the month comes to a close. December is creeping closer and closer, as is the new year. If any of you are like me, the new cool weather has been accompanied by holiday music, adding cinnamon to everything I bake, and reflecting on the past year. My senior year seems to be flying by, and so, I regularly reflect on the notion of #Citizenship: What have I contributed to my iPrep community, and how can I continue to fulfill my responsibilities to my school?
Similar to one’s #Citizenship to a country, I view us students and faculty as iPrep citizens: Upon meeting specific requirements, we are granted membership and certain privileges as part of the community. In return, we try our hardest to maintain our school and improve it for all those who come after us. With this, we should all reflect on how we can be model citizens in the iPrep community.

To Ms. Keller, English Teacher and Club Sponsor, the simple existence of a Gay-Straight Alliance is a testament to #Citizenship. Keller believes that the club promotes understanding and compassionate students that iPrep aims to send into the world. In the mission of creating an inclusive school, “GSA exists to provide representation to an underrepresented part of the student population. It says to the world that we promote and accept individuality and self-acceptance.”
This notion extends to many other interest clubs in iPrep that provide a space for students to pursue their interests alongside peers, as well as the plethora of academic and service clubs in iPrep. National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and Key Club are a few clubs with a keen focus on community service and building character.

When you combine the goals of iPrep--an internship program, honors and AP classes, and fulfilling extracurriculars-- the result is a vigorous, determined, and ethical citizen prepared to confront the real world and all its challenges. The iPrep culture empowers us to become critical thinkers enthusiastic about making a positive change in society at large. Thus, as iPrep citizens, we should reflect on how we embody these values everytime we walk into these colored walls, how we can best fulfill our responsibility to our morals, and how we will meet the expectations set before us.
