By Jada Forbes, Senior Rosa Parks wasn’t the first.
She refused her seat when the white man demanded it. She sat down on a bus, with her head high, when she wasn’t supposed to. Jim Crow allowed her to be stepped on, She was spit at, and scolded, And later arrested for being black and tired. A human living her life the way she needed, Now reprimanded because she refused to get up. The right to sit in the “colored” section Was being taken away from her, And that didn’t sit well with her. Rosa Parks wasn’t the first To defend herself and stand up for what is right, And she won’t be the last. She’s driven my generation to fight and become a united front against the odds that we will win. It was her bravery that helped us Overcome the shackles that were thrown on us By our “superiors.” Because of her, and her predecessors, We are proud of where we come from And where we are going. We are “tired of giving in”, Just like Ms. Parks was and We will march until we see a change. Rosa Parks wasn’t the first to not back down, I won’t be the last to stand up. If it will be, my last words will be “No.”
