By: Laura Crespo, Senior With the closure of schools nationwide as a result of the rapid spread of COVID-19, an infectious respiratory disease, many of the senior activities for the class of 2020 at my highschool, iPreparatory Academy, were cancelled. It is unfortunate that many of us will not be able to attend those events we have been desperately waiting for throughout our 4 years. Although we lament not being able to create wonderful memories at Universal Orlando with Gradbash or at prom with our friends and teachers, we should strive to make the best out of this unprecedented time. Thankfully, the administrators and teachers at my highschool are doing the best they can to make the situation more tolerable for the senior students. For instance, on April 17, 2020 at 1pm (ET), our school faculty returned some normalcy to the situation through a Virtual Senior Picnic. They encouraged all senior students to participate in order to share our experiences while in quarantine, have casual conversations, and play fun games. The meeting was held through Zoom, a video conferencing tool, which allowed us to view and hear each other. One of the memorable parts of the virtual meeting was when we decided to play a multiple choice game on Kahoot!, which is an online game platform. The game became a competitive but enjoyable battle between the seniors and the teachers/administrators. With questions related to different school subjects as well as fun trivia, the Kahoot gave everyone a chance to flex their knowledge. Overall, it was a nice experience to hang out with everyone despite the current situation. I’m grateful that despite the cancellation of our senior activities, many of us participated in the event. Let’s not be discouraged and continue to make the best memories out of the last months we have as highschool students.
