By Nehemy Manigat, Senior The past four years have been an amazing experience. Coming into high school I expected to live through what I saw on television. I expected thousands of students, jocks, cheerleaders, lockers, and all the generic ideas of what high school is. Needless to say, what I expected was almost nothing like what I experienced. Hopefully, a little insight of what I went through can assist you in how you approach your high school experience.
The most important piece of advice is to be yourself. Yes, that phrase is extremely cliche; however, it is also extremely true. Never let your circumstances or the opinion of others cause you to put your ideals in the figurative back seat. Many times, when there are as few students as our school has, it is sometimes common to conform to what everyone else expects you to be in order to fit in. That is maybe the worst thing you could possibly do to yourself. Changing who you are as a person in order to fit in can potentially ruin your entire high school life. Another suggestion I have is to enjoy yourself as much as you possibly can. Avoid stressing too much about anything. I have learned through personal experience that stressing about your responsibilities only makes it harder to execute them. Be as level headed as possible when it comes to getting things done. Work smart and play hard! It is important that you don’t sacrifice your joy for school because then you lose your passion and start slacking. All in all, iPrep is NOTHING like how a stereotypical high school is portrayed on television. Then again it isn’t a good idea to go through high school as others have. Make high school your own and make it memorable.
