By: Zykeria Rolle, Junior ![]() 5.The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) This amazing stop motion film mixes Halloween and Christmas for the epic tale of romance and breaking social norms. The director of the film, Tim Burton, utilizes dark humor to create a film about a pumpkin king, Jack Skellington, who kidnaps Santa Claus and falls in love with the holiday. The movie has the best score on the list but cannot be fully considered as a Christmas movie because of its prominent Halloween elements and that's why it’s number five on the list. ![]() 4. A Christmas Story (1983) This is the oldest movie on the list with the most original storyline. The movie is narrated by adult contemplating on his most memorable Christmas experience during the 1940s. Ralphie, a nine-year old, wants a BB gun for Christmas, but is continually rejected with the quote, “you’ll shoot your eye out.” The movie is broken down into different memorable events that occurred over time filled with dark humor, slap-stick comedy, and amazing set design and props for a movie made in the 80’s. The only issue with the film is the lack of diversity and the use of stereotypes to display certain characters. ![]() 3. Home Alone 1 and 2 (1990 and 1992) Third on the list, this film is a story of obvious child neglect turns into robbery survival movie. A great storyline, memorable slap-stick comedy, and amazing cast. Both films are Christmas classics with great shots and unforgettable scenes; for example, when one of the robbers hat catches on fire. This is film is very unrealistic at times, but it’s action sequences make the film comedy gold placing it at number three in ranking. ![]() 2. Disney's A Christmas Carol (2009) This stunning animated movie directed by Robert Zemeckis retells a classic Dickens novel. Hints of horror, grim, and sadness creates a Christmas classic about a scrooge who finds the Christmas spirit when visited by Christmas past, present, and future. Jim Carrey’s voice work enchants the film set in 1843 London, England which carries a powerful message of compassion and growth. The concept is amazing placing it at number two on the but the darkness during. ![]() 1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) This live-action movie about a social outcast who attempts to steal Christmas is a classic. Jim Carrey’s bizarre performance infused with dark humor makes this one of the funniest Christmas films of all time for children and adults. The camera not only work shifts from dark to light as the movie progresses, which symbolizes the personality change, but also makes the movie feel dark in a way. Great screenplay, acting, and music to go along with many stunning, ornate set designs. This is my all-time favorite Christmas movie which has all the elements I want in a movie: dark humor, great set designs, and an original story with a happy ending; And Jim Carrey’s acting carries the movies to the top of this list.
