Respect. A word we often throw around, whether when talking about what someone lacks or what we deserve more of. But oftentimes we forget that respect is something to embody. How do you respond to others in a conversation? Do you listen and respond attentively? What about your relationships with others? Do you build up your friends and their self esteem? Do you try to maintain positive relationships and a general positive attitude with others?
Respect is also one of many attributes that make up the foundation of any relationship. In addition to empathy, kindness, and communication, for example, respect for that other person or entity is what builds and supports that bond. Above writing about advice, hobbies, and iPrep current events, we are ecstatic to get to know you, our readers, and for you to get to know us and make a connection. My goal is to establish a foundation to build a relationship with all of the iPrep family. Each month my letter will not only highlight happenings and issues from iPrep or the Flyer, but also address the MDCPS #ValuesMatter initiative. |
For our 2nd Period Creative Writing class, August and September has been an important time for defining our passions, writing about our interests, and growing accustomed to this new, and almost abnormal feeling, physical school year. These feelings of both anxiousness and excitement are apparent in this month’s publication and may be relatable to you. Remember this newfound connection through shared emotions and experiences.
Being considerate, receptive, thoughtful, receptive, and polite are just some traits of respectable people. Aiming to embody these characteristics will do more than make you a kinder person, but also earn respect from those around you. As most of us get back to a physical classroom setting, relearning showing and embodying respect may take some effort.
As a senior student who has spent the last 6 (almost 7) years at iPrep, I have a deep reverence for the Phoenix Flyer and have firsthand experience of the bonding that occurs when we read together, communicate ideas, and praise one another through this publication. From taking quizzes together to reading advice columns or finding poetry from classmates you never knew could be so profound, our school newsletter has provided me with plenty of wonderful memories, and as your new Editor-In-Chief, I will make sure you can have some of your own, too.
If you have or concerns, you can find our email addresses at the bottom of the home page. Also, we're always around-- just stop us in the hallway! Let us know what troubles and concerns you as well as what excites and moves you; we care and want to share your stories. Let’s trust one another and most importantly create a strong foundation of #Respect.
Though this year has been strange and will bring lots of surprises, I hope that you can find some comfort and joy in the monthly editions of this Flyer.
