We asked the seniors to submit a song that reminded them of their experience at iPrep or their graduating class as a whole and explain why. The iPrep Senior Playlist is dedicated to the senior class and their experience throughout high school as they move on to the next chapter of their life.
For example, Nikayla Pierre explains her pick, “I’m Ready” by Sam Smith and Demi Lavato, “I choose this song because though it's about love it can also be interpreted as my determination to continue my education and live a successful life. Although school and work has been very hard like a ‘cold, cold, blooded defeat,’ ‘I'm ready’ to start anew.” |
Samantha Oyon’s song choice “Less Than Zero” by The Weekend represents her time at iPrep as she explains: “The song's meaning itself is quite sad, but I think the sound expresses a feeling of longing and bitter acceptance. It sounds like someone who has stood at a precipice in life, and they choose to free-fall rather than stand idly wallowing in their shortcomings; however, the upbeat tempo of the song speaks of underlying hope for the future despite its bleak appearance from our present point-of-view.”
Noah De La Portilla picked the song “Good Times Bad Times” by Led Zeppelin to define his senior year emphasizing,“This song represents the ups and downs of life. There will always be good times that come with bad times. I chose this song because it conveys the idea that no matter what challenges may come our way, we should always strive to live our lives to the fullest. I believe I live by this philosophy. Despite the hardships of school, I have had some incredible experiences throughout the past few years that I wouldn't trade for anything. I have no regrets.” |
Amalie Ise selected “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts as a tribute to her senior year. She describes “It talks about having to make a difficult choice and wishing others the best in the future. I chose this song because we have had to endure a lot of difficult things as a class (covid and virtual learning) and I want the best for everyone after graduation.”
Christina Ganem chose the song “Rivers and Roads” by The Head and The Heart to express her feelings toward this year: “The song represents the passing of time and how life circumstances alter one's path since the people they grow accustomed to always having around may change with distance and time. I chose this song since it puts graduation into perspective as many of us will be moving to different places for college and be separated by "rivers and roads" leaving us to appreciate and reflect fondly on high school.” |
Judy Ladouceur chose the song “Get Silly” by V.I.C because it represents her personality. She states “I am a very ‘let loose and have fun’ person, and this song addresses that perfectly, through the beat and lyrics.” This song helped her get through her 4 years of highschool by supporting her upbeat and outgoing personality.
Ashley Rojas chose the song “At home” by Slow Pulp because it has given her comfort since arriving at iPrep in 6th grade. She explains “as I walk through these hallways, I have a sense of home.” Like iPrep has for 7 years, the song gives her a sense of comfort.
Esteban Sanint selected the song “What, Me Worry?” to depict the duality of his Senior year. He states “this song represents my carefree attitude towards my last days as a senior. While also avoiding ‘senioritis’ by putting as much effort into finishing the year off correctly.” He found this song not long ago and the lyrics explained exactly how he was feeling as his “regrets about missed experiences are ultimately overshadowed by a live-in-the-moment attitude.”
