By: Ambar Aballo Ruiz, Senior ![]() At this very moment, every high school senior in the nation is probably thinking, Why? Why now? And, believe me, I feel the same. The entire world feels the same. This event has brought upon us a tidal wave of panic, fear, and loss for everyone. As a senior, you more than deserve to dance the night away in that perfect dress or tux. You more than deserve to receive that diploma in front of your family and friends which symbolized 12 years of hard work and dedication as well as the beginning of a new wave in your life. As we find ourselves in the third week of quarantine, we are drawn to our harsh reality, which is that we are facing a horrific moment in history that can potentially be lessened with extensive precautions and each other’s support. ![]() By the point that this article was written, we have just reached one million cases worldwide, with the U.S. as the epicenter of the world topping over Spain and Italy. While the state of hospitals has never been more challenging for noble health professionals, ordinary citizens are rushing to grocery stores in hope of providing for their families (or in some cases buying a life-time supply of toilet paper). At this moment, all we can do as highschoolers is get to the end of this year, even if it means making the most out of at-home learning and modified end of the year exams. Though we are separated, it is more important than ever to try and help each other out by contacting friends and family with the several resources provided by the internet and social media. This is more than a nightmare, but if we can work together and focus on the big picture, we’ll certainly make it through. Note: these pictures were taken on March 14, when panic erupted in local grocery stores. Each person in images 1,2, and 3 gave their permission to be taken a picture and potentially be shown in a school-related publication (such as the yearbook or the Phoenix Flyer).
