Sunday, March 14, 2021 was the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards hosted by Trevor Noah. In order to abide by COVID safety guidelines, the Grammy Awards were hosted in an outside tent at the Los Angeles Convention Center, which is across the street from its usual home, with
a limited audience consisting of winners and nominees.
This was a groundbreaking Grammy awards ceremony for women as they won about 40% of the 84 categories. Women also consisted of
the majority of nominees for many of these categories. Many solo artist categories were won by women as well:
Record of the Year: Billie Eilish, "Everything I Wanted" Album of the Year: Taylor Swift, "Folklore" Song of the Year: H.E.R, "I Can't Breathe" Best New Artist: Megan Thee Stallion These women also empowered each other and congratulated each other through these wins. When Billie Eilish started her acceptance speech she spoke about how Megan Thee Stallion should have won the award and how confused she was by her win. |
Women broke many records in the 63rd Grammy Awards, starting with Taylor Swift who broke the record for most Album of the Year
awards won by a female with her third win. Beyoncé also broke numerous records this year by picking up her 28th Grammy win; this marks
the most Grammys won by a singer, male or female. These women who are taking center stage and winning the top categories are such inspirations and role-models for young girls and continue to encourage them to follow their dreams.
