What was your reaction to the nomination for Silver Knight ?
Jahone: I was truly honored and quite surprised my nomination for Silver Knight. I did not complete this project for the awards or the recognition; I simply wanted to have a positive impact on my community, so this nomination for Silver Knight was somewhat of a shock to me. Awesome! What spark the idea for your major community service project? Jahone: Growing up in a predominately African-American neighborhood, I noticed that there weren’t many role models in the community. I wanted to be part of a group that aimed to build positive qualities in young men so that they could have a beneficial impact on the community. By becoming president of the Lamplighter program, I have the opportunity to organize several projects that serve to improve the community as a whole. Do you think your community service project sets yourself apart from other projects ? Jahone: Yes, my project is different from other projects because it isn’t specific to community service. Although I organize and participate in numerous community service activities, the main goal of the program is to build leadership qualities in young men so that they could serve as mentors and role models in the community. Sounds good! Do you dedicate your volunteer time to other places as well ? Jahone: Yes, I volunteer at Shake-A-Leg Miami and Cancer Walks throughout the year. I also volunteer with school clubs such as NEHS and NHS. You’re stellar! Where do you see your project going in 5 years from now, do you think it will continue once you graduate ? Jahone: My project will certainly continue after I graduate. As President, it is my responsibility to mentor and guide the younger members in the program in order to ensure that the projects will continue and expand in the future. Super! Sounds like a plan! Thank you so much for taking time out for this interview! Best of Luck!
