![]() By Luke McLaughlin, Senior Poetry month is an annual iPrep celebration in April. The event is sponsored and organized by the National English Honor Society (NEHS) along with the Creative Writing class in order to celebrate poetry with everyone at iPrep. The event commenced last year, when iPrep grew to include K-12th grades, one unified school. The NEHS, to celebrate Poetry Month, takes the opportunity to celebrate with the middle school. Poetry month is all about engaging iPrep’s younger students and making poetry interesting and fun to learn. “Poetry is easy to learn but hard to fully understand, which is what makes it great and fun to work with,” explained NEHS President, Olivia Ruiz. Last year, NEHS members created fun lessons/presentations to teach poetry. The club members visited the middle school English/Language Arts classes to engage the students in writing poetry. This culminated in the students hosting their own miniature poetry readings in their classes, facilitated by the NEHS members. ![]() This year, however, because of the very demanding FSA schedule in April, the NEHS and middle schoolers will decorate many glass windows around school with quotes from poetry. Both the NEHS sponsor and president agree that the best part of poetry month is for the student to experience poetry outside of the classroom to appreciate, learn, and celebrate poetry.
