By: Divier de los Reyes, Senior ![]() I believe that I have gotten more used to being at home. I made it a goal to do the things that I have wanted to do for the past 3 years. I have decided to start cooking and baking. I never really understood how to cook at all. That also included getting all the ingredients to even start cooking 🙄👨🏽🍳! I mean it isn’t much! I originally didn’t like to cook to begin with because I thought I was going to ignite my house and burn it down, but I didn’t want fear to prevent me from doing something that I've been wanting to do. I gave it a good try in the beginning (I had the supervision of my sister of course!). We decided to make ourselves some scrambled eggs with a good ol’ side of pancakes 🥞. We got ourselves some eggs and got ourselves a nice pan 🍳. Then, we started cooking! At first, we had to crack the eggs, and I had little difficulty trying to get the yolk on the pan without pieces of the egg shell as well (A piece of the egg shell would fall onto the EGG YOLK 😡)... With trial and error, I managed to finally get the yolk on the pan without any pieces of the shell (IMPROVEMENT)! I didn’t necessarily know when the eggs were done being cooked. ![]() It came to a point that my sister had to do something and I almost burned the eggs! Luckily, she came in the rescue and stopped it from catching a fire! Unfortunately, the kitchen was filled with smoke so we had to open windows in order for the smoke to go away. After it all got away, we were on to the pancakes. We didn’t necessarily make them from scratch but we did use a pre-made pancake flour in order to make the pancakes. I mean it had less ingredients to use, and it was also convenient! I mean at least this time, I was able to cook the pancakes and not smoke the whole kitchen out like I did with the eggs! I was able to use the time for this one in order to understand how to cook them. I was so glad to understand that I didn’t want to STOP cooking the pancakes 😅. After making the pancakes, I ate some and they were DELICIOUS, and I wanted to go on and bake a CAKE. When I was little, I always used to help my sisters get the ingredients for it and help her with certain things like butter the cake pan in order to help the cake unstick itself when it was done baking. It was MY TIME TO SHINE, and not only get the ingredients this time, but also bake it! After gathering the ingredients and baking it, I distributed the cake to my family and they actually enjoyed it! I was so proud of myself for not screwing this one up! One thing that cooking and baking taught me though is that it takes time in order to finish and complete things especially when it comes to making these kinds of food. It gave more of an insight of what my mom (or sister) goes through when they are cooking (or baking) something especially for a family of 6.
