By Max Kula, Senior ![]() From September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nation-wide with parades, feasts, festivals, and lessons about Hispanic culture. Here at iPreparatory Academy, a magnet school in downtown Miami, our students, faculty, and staff celebrate the countless ethnicities this school, not to mention this country. Organized by the Lower School Magnet Lead Teacher, Ms. Lopez, throughout the months of September and October, there are many activities and presentations celebrating our Hispanic diversity. All students from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade have opportunities to take part in daily activities like eating sweet Paletas (Mexican ice popsicles) and learning the Spanish dance, Flamenco. ![]() Additionally, The Upper School also participated in the month’s festivities. The National English Honor Society (NEHS) members read stories from renowned Hispanic authors to classes in the Lower School. Ambar Aballo-Ruiz (12th grade), for example, dedicated some of her time to reading Monica Brown’s Pablo Neruda Poet of the People. (shown to the left) After almost a month of preparation, on Friday October 11th, Ms. Lopez and the Lower School led a parade through the iPrep halls representing Spain, Cuba, Ecuador, and Argentina. Students and teachers crafted banners, facemasks, flags to express their culture. Mrs. Nobo and her 3rd grade students designed flags from their origin countries. After a month of learning, commemoration, and celebration, Hispanic Heritage Month has touched everyone at iPreparatory Academy.
