By Melissa Digon, Sophomore Membean is an online learning tool that helps students expand their vocabulary and guides them through the learning process for words. Membean shows the words, gives it a brief definition, and context with roots. In addition, they show images, video clips, word composition, related words, and a memory hook.
After initially learning the word, the platform has you type the word correctly. As the student learns more words, they continually get questions based on past words. However, as the word list grows, it may seem overwhelming for students. Membean includes a mode in which gives the students more questions than words, for comprehension, which lessens the anxiety. All the students have to do is answer the questions correctly and keep it in their long term memory. This is a great platform for ambitious students that strive for knowledge and understanding, however, personally, it can get tedious and monotonous (membean word). The overall consensus is that Membean is boring and students “don't really hate it,” as Nahia Pino stated. Other iPrepians said it is, as Amanda Leslie puts it, “like a game that I want to win.” Most find it annoying to start, but will finish because they know it is for a grade; yet they still learn the words and use it in everyday conversation.
