By: Camila Crespo, Senior ![]() Senior year is that one year of high school that all students look forward to. Honestly, this year was supposed to be fun and relaxing for everyone. This is the time when Seniors are supposed to go shopping for a dress or tux for prom, the time when they plan senior pranks and get ready to go to GradBash. Never in our lives could we imagine that a pandemic would break out in the last few months before we graduate. Covid-19 is a respiratory illness that originated in China and in just a few months has spread all over the world. As of the time this article was written, it has killed around 177,200 people and infected 2.5 million. Clearly, the situation makes it difficult for seniors to do any activities. The Seniors will not be able to walk on graduation day to receive their diplomas. Many medical experts and the government have advised the public not to gather in large crowds. As a result, graduation might not be possible. It is hard to believe this is how the class of 2020 has to spend their senior year: in quarantine and receiving their diploma through the internet. This is also the last time seniors can have a chance to see their friends. Friends and classmates that will go their separate ways once they graduate. For the seniors at iPreparatory Academy, the superintendent said that there is a possibility that we might be able to have an actual in person graduation during the summer. Still, an online graduation will be planned for June. I can understand how many seniors can feel like their year is ruined but we have to think positive. This event is going to be part of history. In a couple of years, your kids will be asking you about the pandemic of 2020 for a school project. On the bright side, they will probably be getting an A thanks to you. We all need to be grateful to the health professionals who are out there in the field fighting to save lives.
