By: Zoë Felfle, Senior I have always pursued excellence, focused on making sure every single aspect [of my academic, professional, and extracurricular lives is as close to perfect as possible.
When I enjoy a subject, I push all of my effort into papers, reading, and other assignments, knowing that my hard work will strengthen my abilities. I always make sure the content and wording in my essays are perfect. I make sure the formatting is beautiful, even with its flaws. As my high school career comes to a close, I continue to strive for excellence in everything I do. Still, no job is a better example of my pursuit of excellence than my position as Editor-in-Chief. As Editor-in-Chief of the Phoenix Flyer, it is my responsibility to refine/revise/edit drafts of articles and make sure they are acceptable for print media. Not to mention, I also have to make sure the website is visually appealing and ready for the next monthly issue. I make the website as captivating and creative as possible in order to draw the eye. The responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief are succinctly described as the Pursuit of Excellence. Although true perfection is impossible, the job of an editor is to pursue the ideal, and I take great pride in my satisfying endeavour. Although perfectionism is all-consuming-- for lack of a better word-- or at times unhealthy (obsessive), the pursuit of excellence is important in the process of success in all that you do. If students work to assure the best possible quality of a product (whether it is an assignment or application), they will gain a great sense of pride and satisfaction in their finished work. Self worth is gained from perfection. The pursuit of excellence has become a vital component of both my academic and professional lives, pushing me work diligently in both the classes I love and the classes I am-- to put it kindly-- not as interested in; perfection is the definition of my job as Editor-in-Chief and has forced me to improve my creative and academic writing; and most importantly, my pursuit of excellence has given me pride in myself, in my grades and extracurricular activities, as I send in detailed college applications and confidently walk into interview rooms, knowing that I have tried my best in every aspect of my life.

Zoë FelfleHi! I am a proud Ravenclaw and am always obsessing about one book or another. My current obsession is My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, et al. (I highly recommend it if you're into historical hijinks, Elizabethan England, and magic)! |
